Our Board Members
Kelly Szerenyi, Founder and President
With the growing need of mental health resources, Kelly believes the handpan can aid many by creating an environment where they can heal themselves by playing, listening, and/or offering to play the handpan to other people who are in need. She offers the handpan skill and drive to facilitate healing.
Kelly joined the Virginia Army National Guard at the age of 19 years of age later transitioning to the Army Reserves. She served a total of 22 years in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves. This made her more disciplined and adaptable. While in the military, she had many leadership roles and attended multiple leadership courses. She oversaw supply, physical fitness programs, to being the executive officer of a company. She participated in many humanitarian missions and post deployment exercises. During these years, She studied nursing, eventually becoming a nurse practitioner working in various environments from outpatient clinic to inpatient hospital. She has studied handpan and music since 2019, sound healing through non-traditional instruments, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and meditation. In the last year, she provided multiple sound healing events, coproduced local non-profit festivals, and coproduced a women’s handpan gathering.
She is currently employed as a Nurse Practitioner at McGuire Medical Center, Richmond, VA, and the Founder and a Board Member of The Healing Pan Project. She is also the founder of the Virginia Handpan Community. She is one of the two education Board Members for the Richmond Virginia Region of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners
She is married, a mother of 2 sons, and a grandmother of 2. She loves playing the handpan, meditation, walking, yoga, cuddling with her husband and pets, and enjoys traveling. Most of all she enjoys sharing the handpan with the world and helping others.
Lada Lucks, Treasurer
Lada is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of providing leadership and financial services experience. Creating and maintaining appropriate financial and operational controls, establishing governance of policies and procedures, improving processes and delivering timely and accurate financial reports and compliance are examples of the expertise she delivers on a daily basis.
Lada follows the philosophy that it is not individual success that matters, but rather that you find your success in life through the happiness you find by being of value to and creating value for society. Lada has a deep passion for the betterment of our community and society as a whole and believes in paying it forward. Being an immigrant from a socio-politically and socioeconomically less fortunate country, Lada understands the struggles people face and the importance of having access to resources of that help heal the mind and body.
Lada has a Masters Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Sevastopol, Ukraine, and a Masters in Accounting from the University of New Mexico. She currently is employed as a Finance and Accounting Director at Warren Whitney.
Lada has volunteered her time and knowledge on HOA Boards, in international orphan advocacy, and for local environmental causes.
Kristine Szerenyi, Secretary
Kristine believes contributes to the organizational structure, communication flow, and purpose/charter of the Board as a retired business professional. Her corporate professional and consulting career enabled her to provide effective communication, organization, leadership, and negotiation skills to any group that she participated in. Besides these skills, she is proficient in budget planning, strategic planning, vendor negotiation, and problem solving. Her successful tenures on previous and current organizational board of directors have given her the foundation to immediately contribute to the future planning and direction that this organization is taking.
Kristine was the president of the HOA Board at our home in North Carolina, implementing a balanced budget, a reserve fund, and a 5-year building maintenance/landscaping plan supported by an additional annual assessment that all owners voted for; was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee for the club she belonged to; having participated on numerous Boards for charitable organizations such as United Way, Northeast Exchange Club, Urban League, and Red Cross. While living in Jacksonville, Florida, from 2011-2019, she served as Vice President of our Master Association HOA Board and was also Secretary & Vice President of her Sunset View Condominium Inc HOA Board. She recently relocated to Vero Beach, Florida, in 2019 and was selected to be on the condominium HOA board there in March 2020 and served as Treasurer/Secretary.
Kristine enjoys interacting with people either professionally, socially, or as a volunteer. Her husband and her are retired and living in Vero Beach, Florida, on the Indian River where they see lots of wild life and enjoy the close knit community they live in.
Wayne Swatlowski, Vice President
Wayne was born in Chicago, Illinois. He began his adult career as a Roman Catholic priest and served in various rural areas of Appalachia. He resigned after 15 years and was fortunate to spend the remainder of his employment career working in homelessness and low income housing through non profit organizations. It was most gratifying and rewarding life for him.
Wayne retired in 2019 and now enjoys spending time with his dear wife, Susan, their dog, Daisy and their bunnies, Bonnie and Clyde. He also enjoys: volunteering with several local service organizations, listening to music, arts & crafts, reading, taking human interest classes, watching the birds from his deck and Netflix from his recliner!
He expresses his excitement about fostering the mission of The Healing Pan Project as a member of its Board of Directors..
